Take Our Daughters To Work® Day is all about helping you get ready for your future. It means going with your mother, father, or another adult who cares about you, to their job for a day. You get the chance to see what they do all day when you're usually in school. It may help you decide what you want to be someday. The first Take Our Daughters To Work® Day was held on the fourth Thursday in April 1993. Today, millions of girls across the country go to work with a parent, mentor, or relative. Do you plan to participate in this day? Does your parent, mentor, or neighbor's job have a Take Our Daughter To Work® Day? If not, we have a few ideas so you can still celebrate the day. Creating your very own "Take Our Daughters To Work®" Day! What do you want to be when you grow up? Do you want to be a florist, teacher, doctor, lawyer, singer, band directress, or even manager of a company? There are tons of jobs to choose from. Whatever your dream job is, go out and interview someone with that job. (Make sure you get a parent or trusted adult's permission and ask them to come with you.) If you would love to be a radio DJ, call your favorite station and see if they will allow you to talk to a DJ about his or her job. You should ask them questions about how they got started, what type of classes they took, and if they went to college. Their answers will help you to prepare for a job like theirs. Talk to the adults you know. If mom's job doesn't offer a Take Our Daughters To Work® Day! have her tell you or even write out her daily routine at work. The two of you can put together a "Spending the day with____________ (mom's name)" journal. This would be a great way to learn about their job. Pictures would make the journal extra special. You could even write a journal about your typical day as a student. Be sure to add in all the tidbits, especially on lunch and chats at your locker with friends.
